HRINZ HR Educators eNewsletter

AUGUST 2008 Edition (vol. 6)

Welcome to another HR Educators eNewsletter.

This month we have lots of information for you, about our search for a new Editor of our online journal, the New Zealand Journal of Human Resource Management (NZJHRM); the HRINZ conference in September; our new premises in Chews Lane; the idea of an Academic Chapter of the Institute; and updating the HRINZ Knowledge Base.

We’d like your views and comments on the Academic Chapter idea and input for the Knowledge Base, so please get back to us.

Remember, we are keen to get NZJHRM article submissions. Think, too – could you be our next Editor?

Best wishes
Kris Cooper, AFHRINZ
Vice President
Chair, Research and Publications Sub Committee

Please forward the newsletter to any colleagues who may be interested. (See below for how to join or remove yourself from the HR Educators eList.)

2. HRINZ Annual Conference

HRINZ Annual Conference is being held on the 3rd - 5th September 2008, Wellington.

This year’s theme is on “Sustainability at Work” which doesn’t mean the theme is about recycling in the workplace but trying to achieve a balancing act between meeting the needs of the present while also being aware of, and planning for the future.
There are four themes to the conference:

  • Employment Sustainability

  • Economics Sustainability

  • Environmental Sustainability

  • Community Sustainability

All these themes are impacted on by the move to a more global village and we need to prepare well for the impact of this on our own organisations and the country as a whole. The sustainability theme is not just with the conference speakers but is reflected throughout the way the conference is organised and run, along with making the Gala Dinner an interesting night to be involved in. See you there!!

3. HRINZ has new premises

By now, some of you may have heard that HRINZ has bought and moved into new premises. The National Office now resides at the new Chews Lane complex which is a far cry from the old days when the Institute was on the verge of closing its doors for good.
The new address is as follows:

HRINZ
National Office

PO Box 11450
Wellington 6142

All enquiries should be directed through the main reception phone on 04 499 2966 or by email to individual email addresses found on the following web page: www.hrinz.org.nz

4. Sustainable Strategies in your workplace

We want to hear about your Sustainable strategies in your workplace.
If you have any contributions, questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly by phone on 04 8023950 or email: debbie.bridge@hrinz.org.nz

5. HRINZ Knowledge Base

HRINZ is in the process of updating our Knowledge Base to make it more user friendly, informative and effective tool to use for HR Professionals to use.

Currently the Knowledge base consists of a list of relevant articles that related to all HR issues.

HRINZ is well aware that our members have very little time in the workplace to be able to sit and search for hours for relevant pieces of information and guidelines. Therefore, the idea of revamping the knowledge base is to incorporate in one place, an area where HR professionals can look up specific and/ or generic information relating to HR issues, related articles, generic templates, guides, appropriate books and websites that can be used. The competency profile headings will form the topic headings under each area.

If you have read an interesting article, created a generic template, guide or policy that you would like to share with your fellow colleagues to contribute towards the Knowledge Base, I would love to hear from you.

As this is your chance to get involved with to make our Knowledge base the best resource around.
Any submissions or contributions will be given full recognition and acknowledgement to all authors as the original source.

If you have any contributions, questions or queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly by phone on 04 8023950 or email: debbie.bridge@hrinz.org.nz
