Future Issues

Welcome to another HR Educators eNewsletter.  I am just back from the HR World Congress in London, and – although I feel like I am drowning slightly in the sea of emails amidst the fog of jetlag, I’m still enthusiastic about the international learning and sharing experience. Specific content aside, a couple of things rise to the top for me.

Firstly, I’m heartened that New Zealand is very much “up with the game” on all things HR. In fact, I might be so bold (and biased!) as to suggest we are much more nimble and proactive on a lot of things. The small relative size of New Zealand’s “big business” probably has a lot to do with this. What we lose on the amazing budget and potential economies of the international giants we seem to more than make up for on the inspired thinking, follow through and “get it going” / “number 8 wire” approach to life.

Secondly, I was impressed that a significant number of speakers at the CIPD’s (UK’s professional organisation for HR people) HRD event which followed the World Congress were academics. They gave fantastic presentations with research-based material. Some also involved their business research partners to give even more well-rounded, audience-targeted learning experiences. Really inspiring.

On that note, Debbie has coordinated a newsletter telling you about the recent successes in our own academic fraternity. We let you know about some of our HR Prize winners at the educational institutions and HRINZ Scholarship recipients. We’ve also done some updating of our own academic online journal, the New Zealand Journal of Human Resource Management. Please think of the NZJHRM first when talking to your students and working with them on joint publications.

Best wishes

Kris Cooper, AFHRINZ
Vice President
Chair, Research and Publications Sub Committee

1. New Website for the New Zealand Academic Journal of Human Resource Management

HRINZ are excited to announce that the New Zealand Journal of Human Resource Management has a new and improved website. As part of HRINZ’s continuing commitment to provide the best service we can to our members, we have improved our online format and search functions, made it easier to navigate around the academic papers listed, and provided clear guidelines on how to get your academic research published.

The New Zealand Journal of Human Resources Management (NZJHRM) is a peer-reviewed electronic journal using the Internet to collate, review and publish original material primarily on the development and practice of human resource management in New Zealand and the South Pacific region.  The feedback we have received from members has been very complimentary, most of them commenting on how much easier it is to navigate around the site and how visually appealing it is.

2. PBRF Submissions

Have you considered publishing in NZHRM Journal to increase your PBRF status?

We would like remind and encourage all academics who are looking to jointly publish with students, that the New Zealand Journal if Human Resource Management is an ideal forum. We understand PBRF panels look favorably on joint publications of staff with students. The added advantage of publishing in the NZJHRM is that the time frames from submission to publication are very quick – approximately 4-8 weeks for articles with no edits.

Of course, we are also keen to increase the amount of NZ specific HRM research available for publication and circulation, and the NZJHRM is an ideal forum for that too.
