What’s HR really worth?Geoff Armstrong, CIPD and WFPMA |
It’s increasingly recognised around the world that people, and the ways they are led, managed, motivated and developed, are the only sustainable source of differentiation and competitive advantage.
But how can the HR profession, which specialises in people, show it’s up to the job? How can we turn HR away from flavour of the month or compliance enforcement into a driver of strategic value and superior performance?
Geoff will draw on CIPD research and his experience at the senior levels of the profession to show how HR can punch its weight.
Geoff Armstrong CBE is Director
General of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the
professional body with over 120,000 members across the
United Kingdom and Ireland. Previously, he was a main board director of Standard
Chartered plc and of the Metal Box Group, in both cases with international
line and staff responsibilities. For seventeen years he held a number of senior
personnel posts in British Leyland, leading all negotiations in the BL Cars
companies from 1979–1984. He is a trustee of the Dyslexia Institute and
the Foundation for Management Education.
He is President of the World Federation of Personnel Management Associations
(WFPMA) and is a Board Member of the European Association of Personnel Management.
