By value of trade handled, Ports of Auckland Limited (PoAL) is New Zealand's most significant port, providing a broad range of cargo handling and logistics services. We provide a full range of cutting-edge cargo-handling and logistics services at two seaports and an inland port at Wiri, South Auckland.

Our Auckland seaport is New Zealand's largest container port, handling more than 890,000 20-foot equivalent container units (TEU) per annum, 3.5 million tonnes of bulk and break bulk (non-containerised) cargo and 67% of the total vehicle imports to New Zealand. Our total container volumes represent 51% of the North Island container trade and 37% of New Zealand's total container trade. We are open 24/7 and have approximately 230 employed staff and a similar number of contracting staff, mainly in the operational areas.

POAL also holds a 19.9% stake in Northland Port Corporation (NZ) Ltd, a 50.0% share of North Tugz Ltd, a 27.5% holding in United Containers Ltd, and a 90% share in CONLINXX which handles inter-terminal shuttle, moves between our ports and container transport in the Auckland region, , and a 50% holding in Seafuels.

Description of Position

As part of the Company organisation redesign a new fixed term position within the Human Resources area has being established. The position of Senior Human Resources Advisor is an exciting new position that will assist in transforming the HR function to:
• Provide proactive support to business managers during this period of change and uncertainty,
• Develop simple, more user friendly HR systems and processes to allow managers to take more responsibility for managing their people.

Reporting to the Manager Human Resources, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate drive and commitment to implement change efficiently and effectively. They will have a strong focus on partnering with the business to build an environment where performance is nurtured, recognised and rewarded, values are shared and upheld, and people are treated fairly and with respect.

Key Areas of Responsibility

The nature of the business requires that the successful candidate will need a thorough understanding of employee relations and a good employment law knowledge with the ability to apply this to support the culture that the Port wishes to promote. Previous experience working with unions is essential. This position will support the HR Manager to build effective working relationships that will enable a productive partnership between unions and the business to achieve the Ports strategic outcomes.

The Senior HR Advisor role will have responsibilities in all areas of human resources. The role requires the ability to balance “business as usual” needs while also supporting key projects in the development and implementation of a new:

o Performance management system
o Remuneration framework
o HRIS system and
o HR document, template and policy structure

Behavioural Competencies

The successful candidate needs to be a strong team player who is adaptable and able to manage multi priorities whilst keeping a cool head and good humour. They will need to demonstrate strong self leadership and self management.

Educational Qualification

Relevant qualifications and experience to successfully fulfil the requirements of the role.
