Thriving on Conflict: A Communication Competency Approach for Cultural Transformation

Peter and Susan Glaser, Directors, Glaser & Associates

Transforming organisational culture means changing the ways people resolve conflict, solve problems, and lead others. Human Resource managers are stewards of their organisation’s culture, tasked with weaving communication, teamwork, and collaboration into the fabric of how people conduct their business on a daily basis. This presentation is conducted by Drs. Susan and Peter Glaser, an American couple, who are regarded as two international experts in the field of organisational communication. The Glasers were the top ranked speakers at last years International City Managers Association conference, and are returning as keynote speakers for this years SOLGM conference. In this presentation, they will introduce their research-based approach for transforming the communication culture of an organisation.

Peter A. Glaser and Susan R. Glaser received their PhDs in Communication from the Pennsylvania State University. Drs. Glaser have published three books and more than 40 research articles. Their research on transforming organisational culture has received the International Association of Business Communication Research Foundation Award for bridging communication theory and practice. Feature stories have been written about the work of the Glasers in Business Week, Nation’s business, Working Woman, Oregon Business and Success Magazine.

The Glasers joined the faculty of the University of Oregon in 1975. Active consultants since 1970, their work has taken them around the world working with Fortune 500 companies such as Hewlett Packard, Weyerhaeuser, Tektronix, Hyundai, and Sony Corporation. They have worked with state and local government throughout the United States and the world since 1979.

All of the seminars and training programs facilitated by Glaser & Associates, Inc. are custom tailored to the particular organisation and situation. They have spent more than 30 years researching strategies for moving from conflict to cooperation. Their work is known for being enormously valuable, keenly pragmatic, and thoroughly entertaining.
