Paul Rayner

Employees on the Edge

Paul Rayner, Westpac

Hear Paul talk about ‘Employees in the Community from two perspectives – as an experienced corporate co–ordinator of Employees in the Community Schemes and secondly from his insights as a past Chairman of the community catalyst Volunteer Wellington.

Paul will present the business case for why it’s beneficial for organisations to deploy their people into the community – what’s in it for the Employer, the Employee and the Community.

He will then present some case study experiences about successful EITC schemes and a best practice model for initiating them and managing them. The last part of the session will provide participants the opportunity to develop their own basic EITC implementation plan.

Paul Rayner honed his human resources skills managing a range of strategic change initiatives during the late eighties and early nineties within the finance industry. The projects included the likes of organisational design, process reengineering and the introduction of new technologies.

Following this period Paul took time out to broaden his management experience including two years running a lending operations centre, a year working on retail distribution strategies and two years running BNZ’s shared services/HRIS operation.

Following a year as Human Resources Manager in a start–up SOE, the 2000’s saw Paul returning to the pure Information Technology field as a Senior Business Analyst before taking up a role leading Westpac’s IT business analysis team.

Paul subsequently moved back towards (but not too close!) HR – taking up a role as Communications & Change Manager with Westpac’s Business & Technology Solutions & Services division. For the last two years Paul has had overall responsibility for corporate communications within this 1200 strong team together with a component of organisational change management.

Paul’s diverse background provides him with an edge in that he brings a wealth of experience in the wider people, operational and communication aspects of process and technology change within organizations.

Most recently Paul’s passion for corporate social responsibility has seen him serve a term as Trustee and subsequently Chairman of Volunteer Wellington and take on a range of CSR responsibilities within Westpac’s BTSS division.
