The Emerging Generation Y Mindset

Peter Sheahan

(Speaker and topic varies from that published in the conference brochure.)

How do you propose to attract, manage and engage a generation you do not understand? Generation Y, the global citizens born between 1978 & 1994, are increasingly becoming the talent we need to establish a competitive advantage in the market place. They are difficult to attract, harder to manage and are proving near impossible to retain. This need not be the case if we make the effort to understand this emerging generation. Peter’s entertaining and informative session will:

  • Provide and insightful introduction to the differences between generations in the workplace
  • Help managers and leaders identify the biases and blind spots they may have about this generation
  • Explore how the mindset of Generation Y is trending upwards and how it will redefine what it means to be a manager or leader and change the way we recruit talent
  • Create a forum for discussion of the issues Generation Y already present to your organisation, and outline some key strategies for dealing with those challenges

Peter Sheahan is a leading Generation Y expert. Not only is Peter a Gen Y’er himself, but he has worked with more than 100,000 members of Generation Y in seminars, panel discussions and focus groups. It is from this experience, and the collective research he collates from around the world that Peter draws upon in his workshops and presentations. He has delivered more than 1,500 presentations.

A best selling author, his fourth book Generation Y: Thriving (and Surviving) with Generation Y at Work is being released in New Zealand in September 2005. It is the first book on Generation Y in the world written by a member of the generation.

Peter will be available to sign copies after his presentation, and at the Expo on Thursday morning.
