GENERAL INFORMATION

Venue

Please note that after ten years at the Wellington Town Hall we’ve moved to a new venue. All conference activities take place in or near Te Papa which is within a few minutes’ walk of the CBD and selected hotels.

Dress Code

Smart casual or business attire is standard for our conferences. Dressing in theme for the dinner has become the norm, so if you want to ‘get into the groove’ we recommend giving this some thought before leaving home, though costumes will be available for hire at the conference.

Climate

We usually enjoy at least a few days of lovely early spring weather during our conferences, but with our weather being so unpredictable these days it’s possible we could still be experiencing winter’s icy chill, so dress warm! We’d advise out-of-town delegates to pack a few layers just to be on the safe side. Temperatures could be around 14 degrees during the day, dropping to 10 or 11 at night. It might be a little breezy – it’s not called Windy Wellington for nothing!

Who Should Attend

Everyone! With the world shrinking and borders disappearing we find ourselves living in a melting pot but for many that’s scary or challenging. It’s HR’s responsibility to break down resistance to change in the workplace and in doing so embrace diversity of people and thinking with open arms. Every HRINZ conference is special and the messages get more and more relevant. Anyone working in the field of HR, including line managers and others who have a people development/management role or responsibility should make a point of attending this event. Sessions are pitched at all levels, and while this conference is aimed at practitioners, others including academics, students and anyone with an interest in people, the workplace, leadership and management should come. Given the theme of this year’s conference, recruiters are particularly encouraged to attend.

Last year we trialled a special price to entice academics and HR students on tight budgets to attend and we’re offering this discounted price again this year. To qualify for this special rate members must be studying at least two HR related papers and working less than 30 hours per week. Contact conference@hrinz.org.nz for more information.
