Poorly performing employees will consistently make mistakes, miss deadlines, or lack appropriate skills to properly perform their jobs.
Most Kiwi employers will have poor performers at some stage but avoid performance management for fear of getting the process wrong.
This virtual half-day course is practical and designed to assist you with formal performance management processes so you can comply with the law.
Course Overview
This live and virtual course is a comprehensive overview of the performance management framework.
Delays in performance management affect team performance and productivity. Managers fed up with poor performers may dismiss them without proper process, causing costly unfair dismissals.
Find out how to avoid poor performance in the first place, and informally address performance issues through coaching staff and feedback for improved performance.
Identify your employment law obligations to comply with the law. This course is practical and designed to assist you in writing performance improvement plans and attending performance management meetings.
We will discuss practical options for continued non-performance, including performance improvement plans and issuing graduated warnings to dismissal.
What to expect
Our employment lawyer Julia Shallcrass will help you meet your legal obligations on performance management to reduce the risk of personal grievances. Participants will explore case law and case studies to help you deal with performance issues.
Attendees will receive a digital workbook which provides a comprehensive guide to managing poor performers. This course includes activities for you to discuss in small groups.
Who is this course for?
This course is useful for all HR professionals, particularly those in their first 5 years of practice, or who want the confidence to effectively manage poor performers. It will be useful for people managers and business owners seeking practice guidance on how to improve staff performance and manage poor performers with reduced risk.

Testimonials
“The zoom format worked really well and it was really well organised overall. The presenter was perfect - and able to pitch the presentation at the right level for all of us in attendance, but kept it somewhat light - it was a lot of information to take in, but easy to listen to with the presenters style.” Hayley, People Culture and Capability Advisor
“It was a great course. Very informative and well organized. The presenter was brilliant. She was engaging and supportive. It was evident that the presenter’s aim was to give us all a great experience due to her willingness to leave no question unanswered. I was reluctant to attend a zoom training course at first but it surpassed my expectations by far.” Amanda, Human Resources Advisor
“Excellent value for money, and a brilliant refresher. Excellent speaker, and a great collaborative group.” Rachel, People & Development Administrator
“Course was good. I have recommended it to others in my business.” Ian, Production Manager
